I am a Humanitarian Agent working with a child/youth empowerment organization to improve Refugee employability in the host country. My role involves the design and facilitation of a wide range of training on self-employment and/or job search skills. As part of the H818 student project, I run a class of 20 Burundian refugee youth aged between 20-30, who completed at least secondary school, wishing to improve their job search skills and eventually grab a formal employment in Rwanda. Knowing that learners spend more time on internet looking for jobs using the UNHCR's library, our project explored how these lifelong learners can use blog to enhance their revision and reflection on the job search practices. |

Project Overview
This project aimed to explore the use of blogs as a revision and reflective platform in the training on employability skills for recent Burundian refugee graduates, who were looking for formal employment in their host country, Rwanda. The case study used the theories of revision and critical reflection and community of practice. While one class (A) didn't participate in blog project, learners in a parallel class (B) used blogs as a platform to enhance their regular course revision and help them critically reflect about their learning processes, as well as to evaluate the impact of blogs on their own career and professional growth. The learners' result scores from both classes were compared to evaluate the effectiveness on blog; but students blogs’ content and feedback on the use of blog in learning were also collected to provide further insights on the implementation.
The conference theme focused not only on the project results but also on the implementation process as it has the greatest impact on the project results (Durlak, 2011). Finally, the entire project is presented on this open web-page, as advised by Philipps (2014), to benefit both the students involved in the project, and other people wishing to develop similar projects in the future. |
